ABOUT

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba as a combination of his martial studies, philosophy, and religious beliefs. Aikido is often translated as "the way of unifying (with) life energy" or as "the way of harmonious spirit".
The word "aikido" is formed of three kanji: 合 – ai – joining, unifying, combining, fitting 気 – ki – spirit, energy, mood, morale 道 – dō – way, path and best translates as: the Way of the Harmonious Spirit. This reflects O-Sensei's goal of creating a martial art whose techniques allow a practitioner to defend him/herself while also protecting the attacker from serious harm.
That said, Aikido is primarily a defensive system that focuses on technique and balance, rather than physical strength, size or power. There is no canonical punching, kicking or blocking system in Aikido. In Aikido there is less emphasis placed on strength training and conditioning and more placed on speed, timing, breathing and proper technique, while being "relaxed" in virtually every situation.
The Aikido practitioners strength come from his/her ability to maintain control and not only find a way to control the opponent, but will also be able to control the situation before drastic action is necessary. There is no winning or losing, since there is no need for contest. Aikido is perfect for men, women, teens and children regardless of physical condition or experience. Sensei Gina, the Chief Instructor at Florida Aikido Center, invites anybody interested in learning more about Aikido to visit the dojo and watch any class.

I would love to give the Florida Aikido Center 6 stars. The depth of the instruction is incredible, just when you think you have it, Gina Sensei adds a whole new level to master! The students are friendly and genuinely want to see their partners and themselves improve. Super positive climate to learn in. L If you are new to the art and want to make sure you are going to a place where you will learn the right way, FAC is the place to start!

After training at different Dojos around the US and in Tampa Bay, I was looking for a place that felt like “my folks”. A place where I could train hard and connect off the mat too. Not only did I find an extremely capable teacher in Gina Sensei, I also found the family she built- folks I can laugh with, train with, and grow with. If you are looking for a dojo where you can learn Aikido and find your tribe, get yourself to Florida Aikido Center!
